One of my favorite aspects of food is how it heals both the body and the soul if paired with good company. I love trying new recipes every time I host friends for a meal- yes, I boldly cook a new recipe with my guests!
Here are some of my favorite recipes that I've tried since the beginning of the year (click on titles).
It's less about making a perfect meal with all the "macronutrients" and creative display but more about the environment and mindset around it. I love eating with friends and loved ones... it always makes the food taste better and leaves me feeling physically and emotionally filled :)

Nourishing Harmony: Embracing Traditional Chinese Medicine through the Warmth of Well-being1/27/2024 In the realm of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the concept of Qi, the body's vital life force, holds a central place. This vital energy flows through meridian (energy) channels, and the maintenance of a harmonious Qi flow is deemed pivotal for overall health. Warm foods and drinks play a significant role, believed to positively influence the flow of Qi, promoting vitality and supporting the body's various functions.
In TCM folklore, warm foods are also associated with nourishing and supporting the Yang aspect of the body, representing warmth, activity, and energy. The balance between Yin and Yang is deemed essential in TCM for maintaining health, and warm foods are recommended to counterbalance excessive Yin or cold influences. On a more technical level, warm or cooked foods are considered easier for the body to digest, strengthening digestive organs, particularly the spleen and stomach. This is believed to enhance the body's ability to extract nourishment from food and distribute it effectively, fostering improved energy circulation. In my life, integrating warm foods into my diet has been a transformative journey. Having been identified as carrying more Yin by a Chinese acupuncturist, I started with the simple practice of consuming room temperature or hot water. I gradually extended this concept to my food choices over time, choosing steamed vegetables over salads and avoiding cold sweets. The cumulative impact on my digestion has been profound, with a noticeable reduction in bloating, alleviation of gastrointestinal discomfort, and has remarkably reduced my battle with constipation. This gradual integration into my dietary choices both reflects the core tenets of TCM and underscores the intricate connection between food and a harmonious state of health. In conclusion, the embrace of warm foods within the context of TCM offers a simple and holistic approach to dietary wellness while preserving a diverse array of food options as you journey to a healthier and more balanced state. |
